The Armed Forces Day flag was raised outside Chester Town Hall on Monday 19th June at the start of Armed Forces Week. The Lord Mayor of the City of Chester, Cllr Sheila Little raised the flag together with military personnel outside the Town Hall.
Armed Forces Day on Saturday, 24 June 2023 is a nationwide celebration that brings together communities to recognise the dedication, and sacrifices of the men and women from the Army, Navy and RAF. It’s an opportunity for people from all walks of life to show their support and gratitude for their service.
Armed Forces Day flags are flying during the week at Civic Way, in Ellesmere Port, HQ and the town hall, in Chester, and Wyvern House, in Winsford.
Members of the Armed Forces community can also take advantage of special offers from 19 to 25 June. This includes free Park and Ride travel in Chester on Armed Forces Day for serving military personnel with a fare paying passenger – this includes regulars, reservists, Cadet Force adult volunteers and veterans. Cheshire West and Chester Council also provides a range of support to the Armed Forces community through its Armed Forces Covenant.
Brio Leisure also provides current and ex-members of the military, along with those who are medically discharged, the opportunity to receive a discounted or free membership. Ex-members of the armed forces can benefit from Brio Leisure’s discounted Work Fit Membership, and this is available to those who have left the forces in the last five years.
Events over the week include an full action packed 2 day event celebrating HM Armed Forces from 10am on both 24 and 25 June at Queens Park, Crewe with an array of military vehicles including displays, exhibitions, memorabilia and information stalls plus a number of employers with job opportunities. This also includes a full stanworths funfair, boats on the lake, face painting, glitter tattoos, zorb balls,obstacle course various catering outlets and lots more. It is FREE ENTRY all welcome.
