Marjorie Rigby, 89, from Frodsham started knitting poppies in January 2022 and ten months later she had completed 1,200. The hand knitted poppies were sown onto ribbons and assembled by the villagers of Great Barrow near Chester to display in the heart of their village for Remembrance Day 2022.
Marjorie’s father served in the First World War with the 4th Battalion the Cheshire Regiment before transferring to the Machine Gun Corps. Her father in law served in the First World War too.
Marjorie is immensely proud of her family’s connection with the Cheshire Regiment and presented the poppies to the museum in March 2023. She plans to continue knitting for 2023’s Remembrance Day in November to support the British Legion.
We are delighted to be able to show the poppies soon, proudly on display in the Cheshire Military Museum which is well worth a visit to see them.
Marjorie and her daughter Sue admire the poppies in Great Barrow. See Marjorie in action here.
